Love, as defined in 1 Corinthians, chapter 13, is not envious; love is not boastful, and love is not proud. God is none of these. Envy, boasting, and pride, so prevalent in the world today, are from the devil. Our attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5 -11). As discussed last week, God's very kindness leads us to salvation. That is why, in our time of need we can be assured of His kindness toward us. He cares for us. God is love.

Richard Peifer has taught several great messages in the past on the book of Revelation, and yesterday and next Sunday he will be sharing with us the closing chapters. Even though our complete understanding of this writing of the Apostle John, inspired by the Holy Spirit, is somewhat limited, there are so many rewards to be gained by studying its contents. Though Satan continues his battle through the pages of Revelation, Richard reminds us of this comforting knowledge: "the Lamb wins. In fact, He has already won!"

Living Free as a Child of God. Join us as Bob Christopher compares the nature of the old man to the nature of the new creature in Christ. The Law does nothing to control the sensual desires of the flesh, whereas if we walk by the spirit, and carry out the desires that God has placed in our hearts. The simple byproduct of walking in the spirit, is that the works of the flesh will not be carried out. Paul encourages believers to leave the old man behind, and seek the things that are of God. This will be total freedom as opposed to only partial freedom.

In his second teaching in the series "Live Free", Bob Christopher compares Israel's captivity in Egypt to our captivity in legalism. Even after God freed Israel from bondage in Egypt, they often yearned for their old lifestyle, forgetting the oppression they had endured. Christians, freed from the law by the Lord Jesus Christ sometimes yearn also to return to their old legalistic lifestyle. Freedom in Christ Jesus brings newness of life! In this new life, we must trust only God and live in dependence on Him. What joy there is when we stay "abiding in the Vine"! Among the scriptures Bob used were: Romans 6:17-18; Galatians 5:13; and 1 Peter 2:16 and 4:2-3.

Join Bob Christopher over the next several Sundays as he continues his new series "Live Free". In his preamble yesterday, Bob took us through many scriptures in the New Testament, pointing to the true meaning of salvation. It is essential that we understand that salvation moves us from death to life, and this life is found only in Jesus Christ. By putting our trust completely in Him, we are given the very life of Christ and live forever as forgiven people! "Christ in you, the hope of glory!" (Colossians 1:27). It is comforting to remember God's promise:"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).

As we read in John 17, we see that Jesus is praying for Himself, His disciples, and for believers today. Jesus prays that we will be one with the Father, as He and the Father are one. Let's be at one with God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son, and allow Him to use us to make Him known to a lost and dying world. This is the greatest mission believers can have.

The cornerstone of the Word of God, and perhaps the most important Scripture in the Bible, is John 17:3. This passage expresses God's main desire for His children... that we grow in our knowledge of Him. Because of God's love for us, everything He has done has allowed us to have an intimate knowledge of Him. When we come to Jesus for eternal life, we are to go beyond a casual knowledge of Him. God's desire is that we become able to call Him "Abba, Father." This intimate relationship between God and His children is in His perfect will for us.

John 16 tells us the job of the Holy Spirit: to convict the world in regard to sin, judgment and righteousness. The Spirit never brings glory to Himself - only to Christ Jesus. We will have trouble in the world as followers of Jesus. In fact, the world, because of its sin of unbelief, will even try to entrap us, as it did Jesus, and we must remain firm and uncompromising in Him. We can take heart in the knowledge that Jesus loves us dearly and has already overcome the world!

We read in John 15, that Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us. This agape love (unconditional love) is possible only when His Spirit comes to live in and through us. Jesus says that if we do as He commands, we are no longer servants, but His friends. We are cautioned that just as the world first hated Jesus, it will also hate us. Jesus also reminds us that when the Comforter comes, He will testify about Jesus, so we can take heart, knowing that we are now friends of the Son of God!

In teaching John 15, Bob Christopher reminds us that the goal of a Christian is to simply abide in Christ Jesus, the vine. God will take care of the rest. No branch can produce fruit without being attached to the vine. If we abide in Him, and He in us, much good fruit is produced, and we show ourselves to be His disciples. Jesus also tells us that the Father is glorified as we bear much fruit and that if we remain in His love, as He remains in the Father's love, His joy will be in us and our joy will be complete.

Join us as Bob Christopher reads through John 14, where Jesus gives examples of why we, as children of God, have no need to fear. He knows our hearts will be troubled, but encourages to trust in Him. Jesus tells us that He will not leave us as orphans, because we know Him, and He is the way, the truth and the life, We know that He is with us always. He gives peace that passes all understanding.

To serve or be served? Join us as Bob Christopher reads Jesus's teachings that the greatest commandment is to love others as Jesus loves us. Jesus washed His disciples' feet as a demonstration of the act of serving our neighbor, instead of being served. It is a blessing to be used by God to serve others in love.

Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see. Without faith, it's impossible to please God. The only thing that counts is faith, expressing itself through love.

Paul tells us in Philippians 3:7 - "But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish that I may gain Christ and be found in Him ..."

Paul states in Philippians 2:5 - "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus." Christ's attitude was total dependency upon His Father; ours is to be totally dependent upon Jesus. We are told in verse 13 - "for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose."

In Philippians 1:6 Paul says to born again believers, "being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." In verse 21 he writes "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Join Bob George as he ties this together to show the importance of unity, attitude and conduct.
